Matryona's Last Night is a short, serious exploration game created by Colonel using the RPG Maker VX Ace engine, and was first released on the 11th of December 2016. The English version was translated by HiragiHOUX in2017, and then re-translated and re-released on the 2nd of November 2022.
The game takes roughly 15 minutes, with two separate endings. It is strictly exploration, with zero puzzle elements.
This game contains upsetting content/themes, violence, and scenes of discrimination.

There are two versions available. The first does not have the run time package (RTP) included but has a smaller file size. Make sure to have the "RPG Maker VX Ace" run time package downloaded and installed from this link if you want to use this version.
The second version with the RTP included will run without any additional installation but has a larger file size.

Aaah... this game hit right in the feels... I really enjoy this creators games, so thank you for translating them! I don't know if Colonel was attempting to make an allegory for a certain topic (can't say it without spoiling the game, even if it might be a pretty obvious spoiler), but even if they weren't, I think it still really resonated in that sense.
Also... I felt no remorse for the rest of Matryona's family lmaooo. I don't think we were really supposed to, but honestly they had it coming xD

I guessed the twist from the mother's first line at the start of the game so I ruined the plot twist for myself.

they repeat it so much "you're a girl, you're a girl", makes you really doubt it from the beginning:).
also is the original in japanese? Where can i find more info about that "Colonel"?
Yes, I like how it comes off quite unnatural, it certainly makes the reveal feel less like 'oh wow, surprise!' and more just a sad confirmation of something you've likely already realised.

The author just has an affinity for using foreign characters in most of their work haha
